Waterproof Wall Primer: What Does It Actually Do?

Basic surface priming prepares a wall for paint. A waterproof primer goes further—it helps create a moisture-resistant layer between the substrate and the coating system, offering additional protection against dampness and related coating deterioration.

Common Moisture Sources

Moisture can reach wall surfaces from multiple directions. Understanding the source helps determine whether a waterproof primer is appropriate and whether additional repairs are needed.

  • •Rain exposure on exterior walls
  • •Cracks in walls or plaster
  • •Plumbing leaks
  • •Roof or terrace leakage
  • •Rising moisture from the ground
  • •Condensation
  • •Moisture within the substrate itself
